Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate & Evaluate

Using a 5e lesson.training plan is a great step in designing an engaging and interactive lesson/training session.

Engage the learner - get them excited about the topic

Explore with others - discuss with peers and explore the topic further

Explain - present the facts/information that are critical to meeting objectives/standards

Elaborate - have students apply the lesson content in both individual and group settings

Evaluate - how did the students do? how did you do?

Students in ED 410/411 and ED 540 created technology-rich 5e lesson plans - Enjoy their hard work!

Engage, explore, explain, elaborate, & evaluate

The best lessons engage the students, allow opportunities for exploration followed by a great explanation. Students are then provided an opportunity to elaborate through exciting projects. Evaluation should be planned ahead of time and consist of both formative and summative assessments.

This is a GREAT example of a technology infused 5e lesson plan, written by K Wales.

Engage, explore, explain, elaborate & evaluate

Students in ED 410/411 and ED 540 have been hard at work creating 5e lesson plans. These plans break the teaching/learning process into 5 categories - engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration and evaluation. The following lesson plans are excellent examples* of the 5e process. Enjoy!

C Carpenter - 11th grade World War II Lesson

A Wilbanks - 8th Grade English Language Arts Lesson

T Chambers - The Color Wheel

P Graham -  What are College Majors?

C Dyer - Open Educational Resources

*Featured lesson plans are not necessarily perfect, but are very good student examples.
